I need some help my 2005 mazda 3 will not stay running if it starts at all. It has the 2.0 engine and so far I cleaned the throttle body, changed the maf sensor and the map sensor. I have looked for a vacuum leak but cant find any and just recently found that if I get car to run without maf sensor hooked up it will idle and run eventhough it is alittle rough. I checked the wires going to the maf sensor and the throttle body and all seem fine. Anyone know of anything that I am missing?
At first I had no codes then it threw out p2229, p2101, and p2195. This is my sons car and am trying to fix it for him. he drove it to work then when he was leaving work the car turned on and after about 500 feet it died and would not stay running.
Just go through the codes and test according to what it says for each. I imagine there's a wire screwed or a sensor malfunctioning, disconnected. Could even be a fuse. Start with easy and obvious.
ive gone through the codes checked all wiring and vacuum hoses and cant find anything. I am thinking the fuel pump is going out but haven't been able to test the pressure it is putting out because both testers I used from autozone would not quit leaking. once the codes were cleared they never came back. very frustrating.
Can't say I've ever heard of a fuel pump exhibiting this type of behavior; typically they start when you turn the key and keep running until you turn the car off. A far more typical failure for a fuel pump is lack of spinup when power is applied; a common test is to bang on the tank, and if/when it starts, it will keep running until shut off.
Your codes may be due to disconnecting sensors.
Reinstall the original sensors and clear codes if any.
Try starting engine with starter fluid spray into intake. If it starts then verify fuel pressure.
