Made the appointment for the first siervice already with the dealership, but checked the car owner's manual and notice the that service interval for the first service is called out at 8K miles for US cars, so it sounds like I'm coming in too early if I have it done. I also noticed that theres a "flexible" service interval feature that can be set on the car. could the dealerships or factory be setting the cars for and early flexible oil service interval to get more revenue for their service departments??
If I forego the service till 8K miles, will I lose my warranty because the service light had been on for 2000 miles??
Woah you have a check engine light already at 6k miles? take it back, that shouldn't be happening. And if its because you haven't changed the oil, I typically don't change the oil til 4-5k miles either, I use synthetic. I believe synthetic is supposed to last like 7500 miles.
Per what I read on the owner's manual the wrench symbol light represent a maintenance service interval is approaching. Check engine light usually is shaped like a side view of an engine......
Must be something new, my car does not have a wrench light or at least that I've ever seen haha. I really didn't even read "wrench" in your post for some reason lol. But I mean that is fishy, it probably illuminates every so miles so you can take a look at it and then a dealer resets the light?
Sorry man I wish I knew. But that's something I'm curious about too.
I got the same light a week after I drove the car off the dealer lot. It's a wrench light, not a CEL (Check Engine Light) which means the car thinks it's time for the next routine maintenance. The way the car does that is by time and/or mileage. The problem with that is the clock starts ticking as soon as the dealer receives the car. So the entire time the car sat on the lot the clock is ticking but not necessarily the miles. For example, if the first routine maintenane is due at 6 months or 7500 miles and the car sat on the dealer's lot for 5 months before it was sold, even if it only has a few miles on the odometer, a month later the yellow wrench (Service) light will come on because 6 months have passed. If you go to the Apps you'll see what I mean. That's also where you can reset it and that's what the dealer did when I went back. So I suggested to them that from now on when they sell a new car they need to reset the Service (yellow wrench) reminder. Here's the link to my post about that: http://www.mazda3forums.com/858-powertrain-2014-mazda3/689330-maintenance-light-came-my-2015-3s.html
Now, I think the first scheduled maintenance is at 5000 miles so maybe it actually is time for your car to have its first maintenance performed.
My car didn't even have the maintenance guides switched on when I bought it lol. I had to set them all myself, which is very easy. Just go to apps, and set the scheduled maintenance to the manufacturers suggested intervals. Unless you'd like to do it sooner, in which case set it to your liking.
For those wondering, the late 2014's and up (any with the infotainment) come equipped with scheduled maintenance monitoring and alerts.
The wrench light talked about above just indicates that you are approaching whatever mileage or time interval that has been set in the maintenance app. For instance, I set my oil change due to just a few miles above what is currently on the car, to simulate being close to a scheduled maintenance interval, and sure enough the wrench light comes on. Set it any more than 2 or 3 hundred miles away, and the light turns off.
For the times intervals, they start when they are engaded or set in the maintenance app. I think the reason mine were all turned off, was so they didn't run the clock on the lot. But the dealership apparently forgot to turn them back on lol.
