HVAC Control Head Unit

I have a 2005 Mazda 3, the AC continues to cut off on it's own. The higher you set the fan speed the more frequently it cuts off. I took it to a mechanic who said it is the computer or the HVAC Control Head Unit, which costs $600 for the part and about $750 to fix it (with labor). He said you have to get the part directly from Mazda, there is no after-market option available. I decided to look for a part on my own with no luck. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and what you did or what advice you may have. Thanks so much.

Re: HVAC Control Head Unit

Or maybe you're just about to run out of AC juice. It's protective mechanism that automatically shuts off the compressor if the freon is about to run out. So the compressor doesn't burn out or something....
