radiator drain plug problem

I wanted to change coolant so I took my plastic radiator drain plug out and drained the old coolant but now it does not just screw back in and I have no idea why not?!?]

Dorman 61138 is part number that looks identical to what I took out but it is as if there are no threads in the radiator hole to screw this back in. I am at a total loss of understanding how I can unscrew this part and it looks new with good plastic threads undamaged and yet it will not screw back into the same hole it came out of. There has to be a secret or something I just can not comprehend.

Any help would be appreciated. I could not figure out how to post a picture from my chromebook to show you the drain plug I took out.

I'm sure you've probably figured it out by now, but if not, here's a guess (I haven't actually removed this plug myself). Have you tried giving it a bit of extra push, before starting to thread it in? If they built a one-way taper into the rad port, then the plug may need to be pushed past the taper and 'popped' in.
