I thought we were supposed to get the concept being revealed at the Frankfurt Motor show... at least that was the original rumor back in the spring.
MAZDA:2015 | Products and Technology | News Releases

Instead we get a new crossover. WTF Mazda, have you gone retarded?!?! So much for their zoom-zoom image... the Mx-5 is the closest thing to a sports car in their lineup now.

I would just go buy the new WRX and call it a day but I'm not sure I can go back to a sedan after having a hatch...

No i know it doesn't exist anymore, but that doesn't change the fact that they have a reputation of making cars that are fun to drive, and suddenly there are no high performance cars in their lineup. No more rotaries, no more hot hatches. It's sad. And this is a concept car that nobody really cares about that they're announcing, which means that car is at least a year out, if not more, and then the speed3 which would potentially get it's engine would be at least another year past that. They really dropped the ball on that one, there is no way I'm waiting that long to buy my next car.

You should check out the Focus ST or if you can wait for it the Focus RS. There's a decent chance one of those will be the replacement for my 3 in a few years. Probably will cross shop the 3 hatch, Focus hatch, Subaru, and Golf. Although I'd be less likely to buy the last two, although a diesel VW that was powerful enough might be able to sway me.

If I had to buy today, would probably get the Focus ST over the current 3.

The electronics in the current Fords had lots of issues when the system (MyFordTouch) started being rolled out. Focus got it in 2012 on the higher trims. The early systems weren't very smooth and tended to crash a lot. Ford fired the contractor who wrote most of the software and took the development in house. Current system works very well. My other ride is a 2013 Escape (really a tall Focus wagon) and the MyFordTouch works flawlessly. Most of the models are getting the second generation now called Sync3 starting with the 2016 model year and so far it seems that everyone thinks it's a good upgrade over the earlier system and I haven't heard any complaints about it being buggy.

If you prefer simple, it looks like the basic package for a 2015 ST doesn't include MyFordTouch. It does appear that all 2016 STs include Sync3 though. After 3+ years with MFT, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another car with it or Sync3 though.

I want a Focus RS, but I can't justify a $35-40k car as a daily driver when the car that it's supposed to be keeping the miles off of was $30k. Maybe if it could tow 3500 lbs so I could go back to one car!

ST has a different front grill. Build quality is solid on these cars. Things like the doors feel substantial. I don't think it feels like a cheap econobox inside. Definitely light years ahead of where a Ford car was 10+ years ago - these are Ford of Europe based designs where small cars are a key part of the lineup and are expected to be high quality. I do think the details on the higher trims (body colored handles, trim) make them look better and more expensive. My Escape Titanium looks much more expensive than a S or a SE parked next to each other.

I was reluctant to buy American after the crappy cars we had when I was little. With one exception, all the American cars we owned were terribly made, from fit and finish to powertrain. All the foreign cars we had until I moved out were great (my parents have since had two terrible Toyotas and liked my Escape enough they bought a near clone of it two years after me). Personally, I've owned three cars and the Ford is the only American one yet. It's better engineered than my Honda or Subaru were. Too new to tell long term reliability. With my track record, I can promise you its demise will be the automatic transmission though - big part of why I went stick for the 3 - preferred it anyways but makes finding a used car harder.

The supposed line-up for the new MS3 is 2017, from what I've been reading online and that's sourced from C&D. Dunno if Mazda will stick by it, but I've gotta say, I hate this bullshit bubble-look the new Mazda's have.

"Elegance." They say... It looks like a 2009 Eclipse. :/ Ghey.

And on the current thread discussion, lol, you'd never catch me in a Ford. And I'm American, lol. Though no cars these days are truly country-only built anymore. Wiring harnesses from Mexico, electronics from Japan, heavy or details machining from Germany, etc — the list goes on and on because some countries just, do it better.

America making an American car? Ch'yeah, when Hillary's president... Lol.

The reason I went with Mazda is cost per HP. Bang for the Buck. Nearly 300 HP for 20k when it came out after rebates and chatting with the dealers. You can't find that in any other new car sale. Now they're even more expensive, some 25k for nearly 300 after some bolt on and the flare is gone.

The FR-S, BR-Z, WRX STi, Ford ST/RS ... Aside from the twins being Coupe, what else is there $/HP? 10k more for the Subbies, which is laughable. Coupes are pointless, unless you're a high schooler or an old man. And fuck Ford. Lol.

The price for what you get with a mazdaspeed 3 is yes...awesome

But the 2008.5 speed I am driving is half ford. Most of the parts say fomo co which is ford motor company.

I think that partnership ended with the last 2013 speed

When I got my speed I did not know much about the partnership till working on my ride a bit then researched.

Do love my speed. Cant wait to see what pops up next with a lot less ford involved. So far so good. 2014+ 6 and 3 look great to me so really looking forward to the new speed.
