While driving down the highway I felt the steering go hard , had a look at the dash thats when I saw the little steering indicator lighted up, tried to steer to the right side of the road but it was really hard - consulted the owners manual to see that it has to be taken to dealer.

Anyone else having this issue ?? dealer advised its a safety issue and has to get approval from MAZDA to replace the part. anyone got this simillar problem ?

StUpId8000 - No info on this recall anywhere !! not even at MAZDA :(

Carowen - I got the EDGE as a rental, how long have you been waiting for ? once I took mine to the dealer it worked fine as the tech took a spin around the block.. Im never gonna be content even if they replace the pump - it could get stuck at any moment....

my father got ahold of the dealership and ripped them a new hole, we also contacted mazda headquarters directly and we both spoke to the manager i suppose. they keep saying itl be worked on shortly. but its a national recall on these steering pumps.

my cars been in the shop for two weeks so far.

You're seriously going to trade the car in because one part failed? All cars are susceptible to parts failure. Trading in because the power steering pump failed is silly and a waste of money.

While driving down the interstate at 60mph right before a lane change....??

I dont want to know...... thats why I wanna trade-in - besides I gonna squeeze the dealer for a better price

Well, all I can say is, get used to buying new cars often if that's your approach to things.

** UPDATE***

this recall is affected the mazda 3's and mazda 6's

part isnt coming in now till the 15th supposedly now

good thing is they are paying some of my loan

Chances are this problem was NOT even Mazda's direct fault. This pump is probably made by a specialist manufacturer which makes parts for lots of different cars.

Several car companies require parts suppliers to cover the cost of warranty repairs. This gives the supplier more incentive to make sure that their production process, materials and engineering result in a good reliable part.

they arnt giving me any more info. ive bothered them so many times this week lol.

My car has been at the dealership for the past 2 weeks as well for this exact same problem. They also told me that the part is backordered, and have *four* other 3s in for the same thing.

Fortunately they are covering it under goodwill as my car is a few thousand miles out of warranty, and they have me in a free loaner car, so they can take as long as they like as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, and wanting to trade in your car simply because it requires repair is about the craziest thing I've ever heard. :screwy:

Same things just happened on my 3, called dealer up, they wanted to know what codes were coming up in the system, so they could know what the problem actually was. The shop i work in has a scanner, but i couldnt get any codes outa it, so the dealers going on the assumtion that its contaminated fluid, and are replacing my rack, pump, and lines. Not sure why you guys are having so much trouble getting the parts, i had mmine in 5 days, car goes in the shop soon as i can get to the dealer, and they figured they'd have it a day.
